    life can be often difficult in a number of different ways, for example, facing problem with new environments, confusion in deciding on a major or career path, struggling in relationships, or making friends. In such circumstances, we may feel anxious, depressed, confused or overwhelmed at some point of life. At times often these situations can be easily managed but sometimes beyond our control and then we need help dealing with such feelings and problems.

    Studying and living at Asian University for Women (AUW) is full of excitement. The excitement of exploring the university and making new friends can be fun but moving to a new country and adjusting to a new culture can be stressful also. Everyone has to go through similar stages to overcome the hurdles while adapting to a new culture or life. Some students are able to over-come them quicker and with less stress, while it can be a lot difficult for some.

    Sometimes while sharing such feelings with friends, family members, colleagues or significant others, they may misunderstand and judge us as wrong or information may not be kept confidential. For that reason, at some point we feel like that we are alone, neglected, frustrated and depressed and so on. Talking with a professional counselor can help to deal with such difficulties, explore potentialities to reach the peak of self empowerment.

    With this concern, the Counseling Unit of Asian University for Women (AUW) offers confidential mental health services through a listening ear, appropriate therapeutic procedure and incorporates mind, emotion, physical and spiritual aspects in a holistic way to help students, faculty members and staffs to make positive changes in life.

    Mental health counseling does not just treat a condition. It is a therapeutic procedure where counselors address the various aspects of maladaptive behavior such as predisposing and triggering or maintaining factors, the consequences that create psychosocial conflicts in life.
    Counseling is a process that takes place in the context of a helping relationship in which people can identify more effective strategies to deal with the difficulties, modify behavior as well as foster personal growth and awareness.
    Mission of Counseling Unit is to offer nonbiased, nonjudgmental and empathetic counseling service and support to assist in overcoming life’s challenges and moving towards positive adaptation.
    The general philosophy of counseling unit at Asian University for Women (AUW) is guided by the fundamental premise that every individual has the resources, strengths and capabilities that can be developed to help them to sustain a healthy lifestyle. Everyone who comes at our door is intervened with authenticity, courtesy, respect, and with the recognition of every person’s dignity, individuality and the right to privacy.

    Counseling Unit is to support an environment that fosters personal growth, development, and psychological wellbeing of students, faculty members and staffs through direct counseling service, awareness program, and preventive measure.
