Access to Research for Development and Innovation (ARDI)

Description: The Access to Research for Development and Innovation (ARDI) program provides free online access to major scientific and technical journals to local, not-for-profit institutions in least-developed countries and low-cost access to industrial property offices in developing countries across the world. The Access to Research for Development and Innovation (ARDI) program is coordinated by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) together with its partners in the publishing industry with the aim to increase the availability of scientific and technical information in developing countries. It requires a username and password. Students and employees of AUW can obtain these from the Library.

Subjects: Access to scholarly literature is critical to the innovation process, as it represents an important source of scientific and technical knowledge and thus complements the information contained in patent documents. Particularly in fields such as biotechnology and organic chemistry, much of the most recent and relevant information is contained in science journals and similar publications, which are therefore indispensable for understanding the current state of the art.

Content: By improving access to scholarly literature from diverse fields of science and technology, the ARDI program seeks to: • reinforce the capacity of developing countries to participate in the global knowledge economy; and • support researchers in developing countries in creating and developing new solutions to technical challenges faced on a local and global level.


Description: Access to Global Online Research in Agriculture (AGORA) is a program to provide free or low cost access to major scientific journals in agriculture and related biological, environmental and social sciences to public institutions in developing countries. Launched in October 2003, AGORA will provide access to more than 3000 journals from the world's leading academic publishers. It requires a username and password. Students, faculties and employees of AUW can obtain these from the Library.

American Institute of Physics Journals

Description: As a "society of societies," AIP supports ten Member Societies and provides a spectrum of services and programs devoted to advancing the science and profession of physics. A pioneer in digital publishing, AIP is also one of the world's largest publishers of physics journals and produces the publications of more than 25 scientific and engineering societies through its New York-based publishing division.

The aim of GOALI is to improve the quality of legal research, education and training in low- and middle-income countries, and in turn strengthen legal frameworks and institutions and further the rule of law.

Description: HINARI is not IP authenticated. It requires a username and password. Students and employees of AUW can obtain these from the Chief Information Officer or the Deputy Director of Library and Information Services. HINARI is a database holding over 6000 academic journals. It is also a portal to a galaxy of other databases, including those of Elsevier (ScienceDirect), Wiley, Springer, and other publishers. Altogether, HINARI makes many thousands of journals available to AUW students and faculty. It also provides the ability to create an account with EndNotesWeb, a tool that makes bibliographies a cinch. As if that weren't enough, HINARI offers the full texts of many reference works. Take the time to explore HINARI and become familiar with its wealth of information.

AUW has full-text access to complete runs of journals with a solid green square by their titles, and partial runs of journals with semi-filled squares. Try your luck by searching "within all content". We may not have all the articles you retrieve, but chances are you'll find something useful. The database is particularly strong in the STM disciplines (science, technology, and math), but there are also entries in the humanities and social sciences.
